This zone’s name comes from “Taurasia,” an ancient pre‑Roman winegrowing village in the same zone. For a wine to be labeled Taurasi it must be at least 85% Aglianico must be grown within designated municipalities in the province of Avellino, including the town of Taurasi itself. They must have a minimum 3 years of aging, including at least one in wood.

100% Aglianico from the Donnachiara estate, this is grown on argilloso clay soils and is limited to a maximum yield of 6 tonnes per hectare. The fruit is hand picked and fermented in steel at controlled temperature. Maturation and malolactic fermentation take place in barriques for one year, followed by an extra two years in bottle before release.

“This Taurasi from the fine 2021 vintage is a dense red-black in colour, with dark, brooding black fruits and scents of worked earth and forest undergrowth. On the palate, it is deep and close-textured with almost clenched fruits at this stage. The tannins are generous and firm, and there is a promising hinterland of savoury flavour behind the fruit, ready for revelation in the years ahead.
